Newest decor: architecture, winter fruits, and dance...which isn't new but is actually always new.
The moment I saw this bridge I knew it had something to do with music. It's called "Chords Bridge" or "Bridge of Strings". It was built for may reasons in 2011, to help with the light rail, to connect the central bus station to other parts of the city for pedestrians, to solve some traffic issues in regards to the light rail, and to add something more to Jerusalem's skyline. It has received some criticism, whether it fits in with the rest of Jerusalem, whether it has solved any traffic issues, and whether it is in too crowded of a place. I particularly love it because of its natural counter balancing while also being very unique in its aesthetics. On top of that, it is 20 min walking distance from the Jerusalem Academy of music and dance and in the heart o the city. It was really quite striking to stand underneath this structure. Just walking beneath it is like watching a movie as the cables shift across each other with every step. Just gorgeous.

I had looked up the flea market, saw descriptions about having anything and everything. Sounded like most flea markets. As I arrived, one of the first places I saw was one place with beautiful furniture out front....and behind the shop, a man stood atop a 15foot pile of tossed furniture. Or perhaps furniture not yet sorted through. And that's when I knew, this is my kind of flea market. Colors, truckers, dust, ratty jackets, crazy pants, jewelry upon jewelry. It was so hard to resist standing in each and every shop for thirty minutes...
And all I could think about the whole time is how much my mom would love it too, how much I wish she were there with me, and how much fun we'd have together. This is the Jaffa Flea Market in the Old city of Tel Aviv. Newest decor: the love for treasures that was once junk all over again, puppies in the street, and pizza with extra cheese On a chilly, fall night away from home, all you can do is drink apple cider wine with friends.
Finally got to experience the Shuk Market night life a little more thoroughly with some classic middle eastern arak spirit, olives (which I hate and didn't actually eat), apple cider wine, loud music, and pastries for the taxi ride home. Newest decor: warmth in my belly and soul from that apple cider....and I guess great friends too. Another quick, 5 hour trip to Tel Aviv. This time to see something, again, unique to Israel...for now. I had the amazing opportunity to see Ohad Naharins "The Hole" that can only be performed in a specific space at Suzanne Dellal Center. It was striking, intimate, shocking, sensual and explosive. I really don't understand how these people moved their bodies like this...
Jerusalem was foggy, Tel Aviv down pour...I was in heaven for a moment or two. Newest decor: jungle gyms, swings and snappers Just a quick morning trip to Tel Aviv. A poor soul left their umbrella on the bus for me to find as I arrived in rainy Tel Aviv. Of course, as I began walking in my turtleneck and scarf, the cool rain drops were welcomed on my face. A hard rain was needed for the dusty state of Israel, but it was also needed for my soul.
I went to Tel Aviv to see Gal the Physiotherapist for my hip flexor muscles and hip adductors. Dancers deal with pain a lot. It becomes a part of our daily activity. But you really don't realize how tense your muscles are until you have someone digging into them. By the end of the session the whole right side of my hip and lower torso we bright red, but pretty much pain free. I experienced cupping, stripping and some kind of muscular electro current therapy. And WOW. I feel great. Newest decor: cleansing, motivation to live a healthier life, and a rediscovered interest in physiotherapy. Wednesday night. A day I will remember as being exceedingly blessed. For the first time ever, Ohad allowed a public eye inside his studio work and the Gaga class.
Gaga, the movement language created by Ohad Naharin, was developed as he began realizing he needed a common language to instruct his dancers within his company. It also began to unfold after severely injuring his back and realizing he had not been using and training his body in a smart and healthy way. Those limitations and needs made space for the blossoming of this innovative movement language or "technique," in a sense. Gaga classes have no mirrors, are usually conducted in a circular structure and do not permit outside viewers. It is solely about the dancer and his/her body. With that being said, the fact that Ohad allowed camera, let alone outside spectators is incredible. On top of this amazing documentary about Ohad, his beginnings and currents, I was able to see one of the premier showings in Israel, the country in which Ohad and Gaga originated. I am one lucky person. Newest decor: awe, hope, giggles, nachos (chips and salsa in Israel) Some of the best discovering a come when your couldn't find what you were looking for but enjoyed the journey of searching anyway. We took a taxi, we walked in a semi-ominous park, in a residential area...I mean all the way around the Israeli Museum compound before finally realizing the first building we passed was the entrance. While we completely missed the dance performance we were trying to go, we ended up in this lovely courtyard containing this adorable tree clubhouse. And we chatted, and danced and explored. Had some laughs and loveliness in the face of mishaps.
Newest decor: clubhouses bringing me back to childhood. Because these are the things I love. These are the things that remind me of home. The smell of rain on vegetation, the feeling you get when you hear the first drops of rain on your window, the feeling of crispy cool air and a cozy bed, the sound of intense wind howling in your window, the feeling in your chest when the thunder is low and grumpy enough...
Some things that get me through the mundane days and missing of friends and family. Newest decor: warmth in my soul and coolness on my skin. When you miss home and fall festivities, create it. Made some laughs, love and corn syrupy, sugary, sweetened condensed milky and buttery caramels in celebration of fall with some oddly quirky people.
Newest decor: some drool, some love, and wine to go with comfort cooking. And again, I find myself missing home, wanting to be with my family, with my dog. Loss is hard. And hard to process from far away.
Newest decor: a forever changed soul, because dogs are a humans best friend. Except when they eat your new Barbie doll's head, or turn two of your favorite stuffed animals into toys. Still, forever my pupper dog. |
